Spires Music is an organisation that exists to give Coventry, Warwickshire and the local region greater access to the riches of the classical musical repertoire from musicians performing at a professional level.
It was founded in 2005 by Colin Touchin, formerly Director of Music at Warwick University, as a means of fulfilling a desire to create the opportunity for professional and advanced non-professional musicians to work together to provide high quality choral and orchestral performances. It has grown from three or four concerts a year, but has expanded in the last year.
Spires Music comprises the Spires Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) and the Spires Philharmonic Chorus (SPC). From 2011 to 2015 we also ran the Spires Youth Orchestra to allow young musicians between 11 and 21 to perform at the highest level possible in the region. With the merger of the Coventry Youth Orchestra with Warwickshire youth music activites in 2015, we closed the SYO to give the new Coventry and Warwick Youth Orchestra the best chance. We encourage young musicians to join the CWYO, but the most able (grade 8 or above) are welcome to audition for the professional/amateur Spires Philharmonic Orchestra.
For further background details see this page here, and for all other information about the organisation, please use the links at the bottom of each page.
Two events are being planned for later in the year.
On Saturday 8 July 2017 we are planning a Summer 'Pic-Nic and Play' afternoon at St Francis of Assisi Hall, 110 Warwick Road, Kenilworth, CV8 1HL, between 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm. For chorus and orchestra members, families and friends, please bring food to share.
If you would also like to share music (playing or singing, solo or in a group), please let Kath Hardy know. There will be parking (limited to 60 cars) at the rear of the church
Then on Saturday 2 December 2017 at 2.30 pm, Spires Chorus and Spiers Baroque Orchestra, Leader Alistair Kennedy, present an Advent concert at Warwick Road United Reformed Church, Coventry. Conducted by Jack Lovell, this will include the chorus 'For unto us' from Messiah, Vivaldi's 'Gloria' and Bach's cantata 'Wachet auf' together with english glees and West Gallery carols.
More details for this event will be provided later.

Notice re spam emails
We are aware that around lunchtime on 30 March 2017 (and sporadically since) emails were sent out from our related webaddress at www.spiresmusic.co.uk, and the particular email address of 'email@example.com. This was achieved by the technique of 'spoofing' our email address—a simple technique. We cannot know how many were distributed but we received a large number of 'non-delivery' notices which is what alerted us. As an email can have any 'from' address, there is no way that this can be prevented.
We can assure anyone checking here, that these emails did not originate from us and they should not be opened but if you are suspicious, they should be deleted immediately.
We can be certain that our servers have not been compromised or directly hacked. We do not keep any email address records on the website server so there is no risk of any loss of data. Emails will normally be sent direcly by individuals connected with Spires, and not with a general source address of this nature.
